Pathway 1 - Description of Curriculum
In English this half term we are focussing on non-fiction and transactional writing with a specific focus on articles such as those found in newspapers, magazines and online, we will look at the features of these and construct our own articles based on current issues. We are also looking at both formal and informal letter writing and the similarities and differences of these. We will also continue to focus on reading and understanding non-fiction texts as well as continue to prepare for our speaking and listening assessments.

In Maths, we will focus on a range of topics covered in the GCSE curriculum including; area and volume, transforming shapes, right angle triangles, probability and data, area of parallelograms, area of a triangle/circle, volume of a prism, sequences:  recognise and continue patterns, continue a sequence, use formulae to generate sequences, finding the nth term of a sequence and pythagoras’ theorem calculating missing sides and angles.

P4A: All Plan journeys Rothervalley, Barnsley museum, lunch in Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster cinema depending on weather, and films
Learning about budgets and how account for money

In PHSE we will learn about honour based violence, feminism, Date rape / Sexual Assault and the suffrage movement

In BTEC Vocational this half term, pathway 1 will be working on Unit B12 Communicating with customers. They will be learning the importance of good Verbal and Non-Verbal communication skills. In order to do this, they will take part in a variety of work-related tasks where they will need to serve customers in a cafe role play. Learners will be demonstrating their knowledge of products available. They will also develop skills of how to solve simple problems and or complaints within customer service.

In WorkSkills, learners will be working on Unit 16: Participating in a work experience placement. Learners will discuss how to prepare for a work experience placement beginning with researching placements available. They will also look at appropriate uniform for their placement and what tasks they will be expected to undertake. Looking at a variety of different job roles they will be able to identify skills needed for each role. Within their placement’s learners will complete a diary of tasks they completed and self-assess their own performance.

In BTEC Vocational this half term, learners will be working on Unit CFC10: Providing a children’s creative activity. For this unit they will work in partners to create an activity suitable for children in KS2. Learners will use a planning format to plan a suitable activity considering what they want the children to develop. They will also identify aspects of health and safety for the task and produce a simple risk assessment. To complete the task the learners will deliver their creative activity to a small group of learners within an agreed timescale. They will also review own performance based on the progress the children have made throughout the creative activity.

In Work skills this half term, learners will be working on Unit 9: Know how numeracy skills are used in the workplace. In order to build knowledge on how numeracy skills are used in the workplace learners will brain storm ideas for a charity event. They will plan the event to include numeracy skills for pricing, calculating, completing income and expenditure graphs. Learners will also calculate profit made and wages earned as in a real-life situation. To provide evidence of learners understanding they will outline the importance of being able to use numeracy skills in the work place and will be able to give other examples of different job roles where numeracy is used.

Pathway 3 - Description of Curriculum
In English, students will practice reading and responding to a variety of transactional and functional pieces of non-fiction from a variety of sources including: websites, journals, leaflets and travel writing. They will also be required to write transactional, functional texts, such as: formal and informal letters, reviews, articles and speeches.

In Maths, we will focus on a variety of areas related to entry level and functional skills including; place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, length and height and statistics, these topics will be related to real world scenarios to allow pupils to simultaneously prepare for adulthood.

P4A: Plan journeys Rothervalley, Barnsley museum, lunch in Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster cinema depending on weather, and films. On the following weeks we will be visiting, Sheffield, Barnsley, and Rothervalley

In BTEC Vocational this half term, learners will be working on Unit 10: Financial Awareness Where they will consider financial information when planning a budget plan for a birthday meal for 10 people. They will need to plan a 3-course meal then research the cost of ingredients and decorations for the task. Learners will look at ways of reducing the cost of their birthday meal to find the best value for money. Using simple calculations, learners will add up their total cost and divide this between 10 people to find a price per head. Learners will consider ways to record their income, expense and budget’s.

In BTEC Work Skills this half term, learners will work on Unit 2: Participate in job related activities. As learners are preparing for adulthood they will be looking at different job roles they are interested in. To gain a variety of experience learners will take part in 4 different job-related activities which they will choose. For each activity learners will need to research what equipment, materials and skills are needed then produce a presentation with information for each role. Learners will then take part in each activity gathering photographic evidence and/or witness statements of their participation for evidence.
