Topic Description – Spring (2) 2023
This half term we are exploring poetry and in particular the Poetry Anthology that is the focus of part of the GCSE English Literature examination. Young people will learn about a range of literary devices that are particularly used in poems and then apply these to their own writing. They will develop their functional English skills through developing their knowledge of spelling, grammar and punctuation across the curriculum, for example, in Careers when we polish our CVs and present ourselves in writing when applying for apprenticeships.
We will be making links from the poems to help us to answer our Big Question: 'Does power always cause war'. As part of our Engage phase we will be going on a trip to Clifton Park Museum to look at their war artefacts and experience their interactive air raid shelter experience. We will dive deeper into this during our 'Menu session'. In PE we will be looking at what makes a good gymnast and continue to follow a range of recipes in cooking.
